Autonomous Systems

Research on autonomous systems has always been a hot topic as the ingredients leading to autonomy are getting more complicated and more versatile than their a-decade-long ancestors. A combination of sensors, actuators, processing units, software solutions and storage devices is needed in an autonomous system yet autonomy is observed when the system is capable of giving decisions under a set of circumstances and adapting itself to interpolate between local decisions. The spectrum ranges from aerial robots to self-sufficient software agents.

Autonomous Systems Laboratory of Hacettepe University has the goal of conducting both experimental and theoretical research to understand the emergent autonomy of human brain via cognitive sciences, robotics, embedded systems, mechatronics, computer hardware & software.

Blockchain Lab @ Hacettepe University is working on recent advances in blockchain technology. Our lab involves in study, development, and application of theory and implementation techniques for blockchain based distributed ledgers. Our activities concentrate on analyzing and building research prototypes around various aspects (such as programmability, immutability, transparency, permissions (private vs public), security, etc.) of the blockchain ecosystem by applying theories and methods.

This group is oriented to explore the problems sourced from complexity of geosciences by using various computational approaches. Considering the nature of the problem, the research group is composed of researchers from different and complementary disciplines. Computer Graphics and Game Studies Research Group

Formally established as a lab in 2017, The Computer Graphics and Game Studies Research Group at Hacettepe University is devoted to conducting state-of-the-art research on design of methods, algorithms and systems for Computer Graphics, Computer Animation, Virtual Reality (VR), Augmented Reality (AR), Stereo Vision and StereoGraphics, Image Acquisition and Synthetic Image Generation, Serious Games and Simulations, Artificial Intelligence in Games and Multimodal Learning.

Computer Vision

Computer Vision Laboratory at Hacettepe University (HUCVL) focuses on developing effective techniques and tools for enabling machines to better interpret and understand visual data. The group was formed in 2012 and is comprised of several faculty members and undergraduate and graduate students within the Department of Computer Engineering, conducting research in the field of computer vision, machine learning and multimedia data mining.

Their research spans a broad range of topics including action and activity recognition, computational visual attention, historical document analysis, image editing, language and vision, large scale object and scene recognition, video summarization.

Multimedia Information Retrieval

Multimedia Information Retrieval (MIR) is a research discipline of computer science that aims at extracting semantic information from multimedia data sources. Data sources include directly perceivable media such as audio, image and video, indirectly perceivable sources such as text, bio-signals as well as not perceivable sources such as bio-information, stock prices, etc.

HUMIR Lab's goal is to research in basic and applied information retrieval topics, working in close collaboration with industries to transfer its research results. Much of our MIR research has been directed at the fundamental issues of text representation, query acquisition, and retrieval models that form the basis of all search engines.

Software Engineering

Hacettepe University's Software Engineering Research Group (HUSE) is an industry-oriented research group. It is affiliated with the Department of Computer Science/Engineering.

The group's overall objective is to develop new methodologies and tools to develop higher quality industrial software-intensive systems in a cost-effective manner. We adopt a rigorous, problem-driven, and realistic approach to every problem as we view industrial software development as an engineering discipline. Wireless Networks and Intelligent Secure Systems

Wireless Networks and Intelligent Secure Systems Lab conducts research on wireless networks, IoT and security. Our research is at the intersection of machine learning, nature inspired algorithms and their applications to the hard problems in networking and security. The main aim of the group is to develop intelligent secure systems. We are particularly interested in malware analysis, anomaly and intrusion detection, and trust management.
